How do I find out the capacity of my heating oil tank?
Most residential oil tanks are 275 gallons. Oil tanks generally have a tag or plate that is mounted to the tank, listing the manufacturer, date of manufacture, and capacity of the oil tank.
What do I do if I have no heat?
There are some simple steps that will help you troubleshoot your heating system:
Is your emergency switch on (usually located at top of basement stairs)?
Are any circuit breakers/fuses tripped or blown?
Is your thermostat set above room temperature?
Are the batteries in your digital thermostat working?
Did you press the reset button (once and ONLY once)?
If you’re still having trouble after trying these steps, don’t hesitate to contact us and schedule a check-up.
My family is going away for a winter vacation. What should I leave my heat set at?
Generally speaking, we recommend that you set your heat no lower than 60 degrees in cold weather. We also recommend, if you can, to have someone check your house while you are away.
How often should I change the batteries in my digital thermostat?
We recommend changing batteries when you set your clocks ahead or back, just like smoke detectors. Most digital thermostats also have indicators that give you ample warning when your batteries need to be changed.
Should I shovel a path and make sure my fill pipe is accessible in snowy conditions?
Absolutely! Our drivers generally know where the fill connections are located, but to ensure uninterrupted deliveries a clear fill pipe is very important! If you live in a location where more than one pipe is located, it is also very important to mark the apartment number on each so there will be no interruptions.
Why do oil prices fluctuate? Why do different dealers have different prices?
Oil prices fluctuate because it is a globally traded commodity that is affected by supply and demand fundamentals, geo-political events, and cold weather to name a few. Most full service dealers are very competitive, and you will most likely find most full service dealers pricing comparable. Some smaller or “C.O.D.” type companies may offer a cheaper price, but may not offer automatic delivery, emergency service, or deliveries when needed. Like so many other businesses, there is “no such thing as a free lunch” in the heating oil business!
Do you offer price protection programs and/or budget options?
Yes! Budget programs begin in July, so plan early! Price protection programs are often available in limited quantities for limited time periods, so be sure to contact us to check on availability!
When should I have maintenance performed on my heating and cooling systems?
We recommend that you perform annual preventive maintenance on both your heating and cooling system before their seasonal use. That means a checkup for you heating system in the Fall and a checkup for your cooling system in the Spring.
How often does my AC need to be recharged?
Theoretically, it should never need a charged as it is a closed system. Over time some systems develop leaks which would require a freon charge until a permanent repair can be made to repair the leak.
We take pride in the high quality of our service, so we invest in training all our technicians to be the best in the Boston, MA metropolitan area.
